Reason #6: The Interview 2: The Squeakuel - 11/05/25
In my very first entry in this series, I talked about my difficult job search and my sudden luck with interviews. Well, the luck keeps rolling in! I passed another set of interviews and now have secured another job!!! At a really cool fixture in my town!! And I somehow got to shoehorn Cookie Run into my interview!
I won't be as specific in naming the business this time because it's very, very identifying - the gist is that it's a tourist attraction dedicated to media and pop culture. My position is part time and technically a temp-to-hire process (which is a little nerve wracking) but I'm genuinely really excited!! I walked out of the interview feeling good about my chances and the interviewers had let me know they would get back to me in the coming days. And they reached out...3 hours later. So I feel very, very energized by that!
The story of the Cookie Run name drop: my interview was a group interview, 5 of us vs 3 upper management representatives. It was honestly a lot of fun! There was a lot of talk of our favorite media and one of the interview questions was explictily "What is your favorite fandom?".
I was the first person to answer and immediately started talking about Cookie Run. I didn't go into too much detail; one of the interviewers was a 50-something dad who was not about to understand anything I was going to say. But I talked about Cookie Run's penchant for inspiring very beautiful, almost biblical fanart and the game's reality of being about cookies, made out of gum drops and chocolate and stuff. That got a laugh, so I'll chalk it up to a win. Everyone else said Star Wars, Marvel, and Naruto, so maybe my niche interests and strange charm bewitched them.
At the end of the day, I'm just really relieved that my employment plans have worked out. Its been a really stressful road that I've agonized over, but now I can relax. At least for a little while. Back in August, I began writing weekly goal sheets on notebook paper to keep my priorities in order and motivate myself to work on them. "Get a job" has been at the top of those priorities since the beginning. And I gave myself the deadline of November 15th to do so. This day was, at the time, about a week before I had family coming to visit me; I had wanted to "get my life together" before then. The family visit has since been postponed, my life is still nowhere near together, but: I did meet my goal. I got a job (two even!) before November 15th of this year. And that feels really, really good to cross off my to-do list.
